Do my Honeybees have Varroa?

Less than a week after interviewing Harry Owens on the possibility of foreign bees being present on the island – along with the Varroa Mite – I had my own scare. I opened one of my hives on Saturday to discover reddish-brown mites living on my bees. Was it Varroa? If so, it would be devastating news since we’ve thus far been able to keep Varroa off of the Isle of Man.

Fortunately it turned out to be Braula, otherwise known as the Bee Louse. They look very similar though as you can see in the video.
