December in the Allotment Garden

December is cold, brown, and soggy and the allotment garden is much different than it was just a couple months ago. Despite the gloom, there’s still winter veg to be picked including turnips, beet root, and carrots. There are also hearty greens on the menu including crispy oriental greens and kale.

While it’s a bright and calm day I also decide to replace the mouse-guards on the beehives with entrance blocks. It’s been very cold at night and the restricted entrance will help keep warmth inside the hives.

The children’s book I mention at the beginning is Stone Soup and you can find it on Amazon here: http://amzn.to/2iFCoUN

It’s also available on Amazon UK: http://amzn.to/2Anr8CR
