I vernalized these bulbs for about 12 weeks in the fridge to simulate winter temperatures, as I’m gambling by growing hardneck garlic in a zone 10b climate.

I also applied 2″ of mushroom compost, and 4″ of straw mulch to keep the heat down, and buried cloves 4-6″ deep as well. We’ll see how this goes!

Atlantis Water Gardens is located at 3017 Route 10 in Denville (Morris County), NJ (New Jersey) with a full pond supply store and specializes in the design, maintenance and construction of backyard fish ponds, boulder waterfalls, fountainscapes, decorative water features, natural looking ponds, koi fish ponds and outdoor goldfish ponds for backyard landscapes.

Large plant labels exist, including ones that can be reused from year to year. But if you want to buy slate or plastic plant markers, it will cost you. In this gardening project, I share how I’ve made my own version using reclaimed wood, and two inexpensive materials that will cost you around $10.

With these materials, I can make 20 or more DIY blackboard plant labels that are both waterproof and erasable. The idea is that when I’m finished with them, I can clean the text off and use them again.

Disclaimer: I’ve only tested this idea over the past week, and only time will tell how easily they can be erased. Keep an eye out for an update on them later this year.
