CHIPMUNKS EATING POND LINER! Complete Backyard Fish Pond Renovation (PART 1)

Every year we rebuild 15-20 ponds & waterfalls due to chipmunk damage. They usually get behind the waterfall during the Winter, when the water is turned off, and chew multiple holes right through the liner and cause lots of damage.

Today we are going to completely rebuild a chipmunk damaged waterfall and while we’re there, do a total pond expansion with underwater LED lights, a large Aquascape Stacked Slate Urn, driftwood and a fish cave.

Robert Špiler in Tjaša Štruc sta po zaključenem študiju leta 2013, s polno glavo idej in mladostne energije, na gozdni jasi sestavila čudovito malo hiško ter poleg vzpostavila velik vrt. Pri vsega 22. letih sta začela živeti svoje preprosto življenje in odkrivati lepote Narave.

Združila sta Tjašino akademsko znanje (mag. biologije in ekologije) ter večletno Robertovo prakso dela na vrtovih po Sloveniji. Po mnogo uspešnih in tudi zgrešenih vrtnih poizkusih, so ostala le najboljša spoznanja – akademska, praktična, družinska, permakulturna in biodinamična, ki jih danes predajata naprej. Na svojem vrtu uporabljata predvsem kompostno zastirko v kombinaciji z ostalimi organskimi materiali, ki zaščitijo zemljo in imitirajo pogoje v Naravi. Tako dosežeta univerzalno rodovitna tla, mnogo manj pleveli in za 95% manj zalivanja; vse to brez prekopavanja ali obračanja zemlje. Prelepo, da bi bilo res? Ničesar ne skrivata, njuno delo, slike, objave, posnetki so dovolj zgovorni sami zase. Najbolje, da grete kar sami pogledat na kakšno izmed delavnic. Starejše vrtnarke in kmetje ob pogledu na zemljo vidijo zgolj trpljenje in delo. Robert vidi vrtnarjenje kot nekaj lahkotnega, kreativnega in sproščujočega, Tjaša pa kot vir okusne hrane, ki jo pridela z užitkom. Ob sodelovanju z Naravo imata tudi veliko razlogov za praznovanje in veselje, ter seveda obilje domačih pridelkov. Mnogi so z njuno pomočjo že občutili veliko čudovitih trenutkov vrtnarjenja in ti božanski občutki so na voljo tudi tebi.

When learning how to grow potatoes, you’ll hear about “seed potatoes” and you might wonder what they are. Unlike many other plants, we grow our potatoes from…other potatoes!

However, there’s a process that our seed potatoes need to undergo to make sure they have the best chance of survival. This is what we’re talking about in today’s video.

I bought some seed potatoes from Urban Farmer Seeds (Russet, All Red, and All Blue varieties) and am going to talk you through chitting, cutting, and drying your seed potatoes, as well as the basic anatomy and structure of a potato.

Pool Area Waterfall – Building a Disappearing Waterfall Against a Vinyl Inground Pool – Randolph, NJ

Today we are building a pool waterfall, well it’s not really an “Into The Pool Waterfall”, but a disappearing waterfall (or Pondless Waterfall) that gives the illusion that it’s part of the swimming pool system. We don’t like to build rock waterfalls into vinyl pools because the side structure of the pool is just a thin-wall metal frame that wasn’t designed to hold many tons of weight that a rock waterfall puts on the edge of a vinyl pool.

Even thought the falls don’t go into the pool, the homeowner was extremely happy with her new pool area waterfall and it can be enjoyed for a much longer part of the season, when the pool is not even in use!

It’s a beautiful day and instead of taking you to the garden, I’m going to give you a little tour of the Isle of Man. Starting in the village of Laxey we’ll visit King Orry’s Grave, a 5000 year old stone tomb. It has two parts that are separated by a modern road and both sites are plonked down in the middle of a residential area.

From there we head north and visit the beaches of the Point of Ayre and Blue Point. You’ll see lighthouses and stretches of beach with barely a soul in sight.

Driving south we wind our way around the Devil’s Elbow, where local superstition has it that you can’t speak or make noise while you’re traveling around it. Above it sits an unexcavated neolithic tomb that I’m sure has something to do with the superstition.

Peel Castle was built by the Vikings and its beautiful ruins stand on Saint Patrick’s Isle. I have a little mishap with my keys in the rocks there and afterwards we have a walk around the castle walls. The interior is mainly ruins and the castle is said to be haunted by the ghost of a black dog — the Moddey Dhoo.

We finish up our drive around the Island with a climb to another ancient burial site — the Meayll hill circle above Port Erin. It’s composed of 12 individual stone tombs that were built in a circle about 5000 years ago.

Growing thyme is one of the joys of having an herb garden. It spices up so many dishes that it’s a staple…but what if you want more of it? In this video I go over a dead-simple method for propagating an endless amount of thyme from cuttings.
