For me preparing for a summer harvest means filling every available space with edibles — both in the allotment garden and at home. The NatureUp! planter from Gardena fits into this plan beautifully and I think it looks great where it is. What do you think?

After I assemble and plant the vertical planter, I show you a few more projects I have on the go. Some salad greens I sowed from seed about a month ago, newly sowed pumpkin, squash, and cucumber seeds, various other plants on the go and even some kohlrabi growing in eggshells.

I then head out to the allotment garden where I plant another vertical plant — Sweet Peas! They are among my top five favourite flowers and I can’t wait for them to bloom this summer.

GROW PINEAPPLE AT HOME FOR FREE -IN JUST FEW DAYS

Rooting and growing pineapple tops is easy. Once you bring your pineapple home, cut off the leafy top about half an inch below the leaves. Then remove some of the lowest leaves. Trim off the outer portion of the pineapple top at the bottom of the crown, or stem, until you see root buds. These should resemble small, brown-colored bumps around the stem’s perimeter. Allow the pineapple top to dry for 2-3 days prior to planting. This helps the top to heal, discouraging problems with rotting.

Starejše vrtnarke in kmetje ob pogledu na zemljo vidijo zgolj trpljenje in delo. Robert vidi vrtnarjenje kot nekaj lahkotnega, kreativnega in sproščujočega, Tjaša pa kot vir okusne hrane, ki jo pridela z užitkom. Ob sodelovanju z Naravo imata tudi veliko razlogov za praznovanje in veselje, ter seveda obilje domačih pridelkov. Mnogi so z njuno pomočjo že občutili veliko čudovitih trenutkov vrtnarjenja in ti božanski občutki so na voljo tudi tebi.

We put a lot of time into our gardens, so let’s make sure we get the most out of our greens! Lettuce, spinach, mustard greens, and many other leafy veggies can be harvested many times over using the cut and come again method.

As long as you don’t damage the growing tip or “crown” of the plant, you’re in good shape. Either take scissors and chop off the outer, mature leaves, or come in with a high-quality and SHARP chef’s knife and slice off just above the crown.

This method makes harvesting mustard greens and all sorts of other ‘odd’ greens a breeze as well, so don’t discriminate!
