VLOG – 022

Having a retail pond supply store can be a big challenge in the post-Amazon.com landscape. Having the passion to provide a destination retail experience is important to succeed in this marketplace.

My wife JoAnn is the glue that binds Atlantis Water Gardens together and keeps us all headed in the right direction! I spent the day with her and my 2 boys at our pond retail store in Denville, NJ as she gets everything in order for our upcoming 2018 water gardening season!

Oh wow, I’m so excited about not one but two things! First off, I cleaned my pond (last week’s video) in just the nick of time. Just a few days later and I’ve found Valentines Day frog spawn in my pond!

Also, you’ll know from my February garden tour video that I was thinking about taking on another plot. Well, I’ve finally made a decision and I’ll bet you can guess what my second announcement is.

I hope you enjoy my video — please leave me a comment to let me know what your ideas for the new plot would be. Even if it’s your own tips for starting a new garden.

Also a HUGE apology for the wind in the audio. Hopefully it isn’t too distracting. Filming outside can be a real challenge!

In this video:

✽ Having a look at the newly laid frog spawn

✽ Taking a walk around the new allotment plot.

GROW A VEGETABLE CONTAINER GARDEN -FAST N EASY WITH SIMPLE TIPS
DAIZZ’S TIP:-Planting vegetables in containers is an excellent way of growing edible crops in the garden, particularly where space is limited.
Container choice
Pots, troughs, buckets and grow-bags can all be used to allow gardeners without time or room for a vegetable plot to grow fresh, tasty produce
Smaller containers can result in a lack of moisture and nutrients for plant roots. Aim for containers with a depth and width of at least 10-15 inches, otherwise frequent watering and feeding will be needed
Compost choice
Use organic compost such as decomposed cow dung, leaf compost, vermi compost for your edibles..:)
Crop Selection
fast maturing n rewarding vegetable crops for containers include:

Beetroot,radish,chilies,spinach,fenugreek,cauliflower,brinjals,lettuce,green onions,coriander n others

As gardeners we’re often obsessed with pest prevention, nutrient deficiencies, and fertilizing our plants. What if there was a way to take care of all three of these at once?

Enter foliar spraying and feeding with worm tea. It’s a great pest prevention tool as the spray dislodges aphids and the like from your plants. It also acts as a correcter of micronutrient deficiencies, as worm tea is chock-full of micronutrients.

Today’s video features Steven Cornett of Nature’s Always Right farms. He’ll show you how he approaches foliar spraying his crops with worm tea and explain the logic behind it so you can decide whether it makes sense for your garden.

VLOG – 019

I’m trying to make up for yesterday’s VLOG where I just showed like 2 seconds of my new truck. It’s actually a 2003 Kenworth T300 with a hooklift and some customization to make it the baddest truck I’ve had so far!

A friend messaged me last week and told me to expect frog spawn very soon. For the past five years, their frogs have been laying eggs in their pond around Valentine’s Day. I look forward to having more frogs in my allotment garden this year but worry that my pond is too dirty. It’s choked up with duckweed and filamentous algae and there’s no space for other living things.

I had to get the pond cleaned before those frogs start spawning — otherwise, it would be too late. This video shows how I cleaned my small garden pond on a cold and wintery day. It includes:

✽ Cleaning the duckweed and filamentous algae from the pond
✽ Emptying the pond water
✽ Finding tadpoles and an adult frog!
✽ Refilling the pond and admiring its clean new look

Back again with Steven Cornett of Nature’s Always Right. In this video I asked him to share how me makes his potting soil and seed starting mix in bulk.

We go through his entire process of making his mix from scratch along with the reasoning BEHIND why he does it the way he does it.

In short:

– 1/3 peat moss
– 1/3 perlite (medium and fine grain)
– 1/3 home-made compost
– Handful of Azomite
– Handful of kelp meal
– Home-made worm tea to moisten and inoculate

It’s a powerful mix that starts your plants out with LIVING soil instead of store-bought sterile soil. This is really important in Steven’s farm – he wants to play WITH nature’s systems instead of against them…and the living soil potting mix is a huge part of it.
